DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
There are many diagnostic tests that can be performed to determine what types of POP a woman may have. The type of tests you have will be determined by your health care professional based on symptoms you display as well as a pelvic and/or digital rectal exam. Some of the most common tests performed are:
URODYNAMICS-A small catheter is inserted into the bladder to determine bladder and urethra function during filling and emptying as well as degree of leakage issues.
CYSTOSCOPY-A lighted scope is used to view the inside of the bladder.
EMG-This test evaluates nerve and muscle function.
IVP (intravenous pyelogram)-An xray procedure that views size, shape and positioning of the kidneys, bladder, and urethra.
DYNAMIC CYSTOPROCTOGRAM-This procedure involves evacuation of bowels, it determines degree of prolapse.
URINALYSIS-This test will evaluate the cell tissues and chemicals in the urine.
CT SCAN-This xray will provide detailed pictures of the structures within the pelvic area.
